Drinking hot coffee can trigger cancer

Most people think of hot coffee as a drink that is far more delicious than coffee which is in cooler temperatures. By enjoying it while it's still hot, we can enjoy the taste to the fullest. Unfortunately, the United Nations World Health Organization actually calls hot coffee or hot tea can cause cancer.

Based on a study conducted by IARC, it was stated that drinks that are heated to temperatures over 65 degrees Celsius tend to cause an increased risk of esophageal cancer. The problem is, esophageal cancer is very deadly and does not provide clear symptoms until the condition is already very severe and difficult to treat.

IARC Director, Dr. Christopher Wild said that the results of the research he did have proven that drinks that are still in hot conditions can indeed cause esophageal cancer. Dr. Wild also emphasized that this effect was more influenced by the temperature factor of the drink, rather than the type of beverage consumed. This means, not coffee or tea that brings cancer, but rather the temperature of the drink.

Dr. Wild also strongly denied an opinion that emerged in 1991 about coffee which was accused of being a trigger for bladder cancer. According to Dr. Wild, there is no clear evidence that coffee has a carcinogenic effect. In fact, coffee can actually reduce the risk of breast cancer in women and prostate cancer in men. Even so, the coffee you drink should be in a lower temperature, which is warm or made into cold drinks to make it safer.

Other health experts, Dana Loomis also revealed similar facts. According to this cancer specialist, hot drinks that are consumed regularly can indeed have a far worse effect than we thought.

"This does not depend on the type of beverage consumed. The temperature determines the risk of cancer, "said Loomis.

Meanwhile, Dr. Rachel Thompson from the World Cancer Research Fund said that this does not mean we can no longer enjoy hot drinks. As long as we wait for a few minutes after brewing so that the temperature becomes warmer and more comfortable for the lips or tongue, this drink is safe for consumption.
